The Bekaa Relief Kitchen
In 2024, our operations in the Bekaa shifted to support families displaced by the war. The kitchen served as a hub for nearby shelters and host communities, providing regular hot meals. By maintaining a consistent food supply, the team ensured that displaced families could access nourishing, home-style meals. The kitchen was operating six days per week and serving around 400 meals daily.
Beirut: Migrant Community Kitchen
In Beirut, we operated a dedicated kitchen in collaboration with the Anti-Racism Movement (ARM) to provide food access for migrant communities often excluded from formal assistance networks. Working directly with cooks from within the community, we prepared meals that reflected the specific cuisines of their home countries. The kitchen was operating seven days a week and serving around 300 meals daily.
The goal was to provide more than just nourishment: by serving familiar, culturally relevant food, we ensured a sense of familial comfort for those navigating the dual challenges of displacement and life away from home.
Community-Led Operations
Both relief kitchens were managed and operated by teams from the communities themselves. This approach reflects our commitment to peer-led action, using the kitchen as a site of solidarity and shared strength. By centering the work on those most affected, we turned food relief into a tool for community-driven support. The Great Oven Lebanon served over 49,000 meals during it’s emergency response.
